Thumb injury rules Inbee Park out of Evian
Championship, last major of season
LPGA TOUR NEWS RELEASE
Seven-time major champion Inbee Park today released a statement that she will not be competing in the 2016 Evian Championship, the last ladies' major of the season, due to an ongoing left thumb injury. Park most recently won the gold medal at the women's competition at the Olympics in Rio after taking more than a month away from the LPGA Tour to rehab her injury.
Park's statement:
"I’m extremely disappointed to announce that I will not be able to attend this year’s the Evian Championship. Since I have invaluable memories at Evian-les-bains, this has been an incredibly hard decision for me to make.
After winning the Gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics a couple weeks ago, I’ve been intensively focusing on recovering from my left thumb injury. The Evian Championship means so much to me and I really wanted to see the beautiful Evian Resort Golf Club once again and compete to win.
Unfortunately, my left thumb injury needs more rehabilitation than I wished for. Last week I had to put on a cast to immobilize my left thumb and the recovery is potentially expected longer than the Evian Championship week. Therefore, I will be unable to commit to this year’s championship and I will focus on getting fully recovered from the injury and put all efforts to being back on the golf course as soon as possible."
