Seniors at Caldy
Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) was in a challenging position at the Senior British women's open amateurJo championship today (WED) until she dropped four shots over the closing holes for a first-round score of three-over-par 76 and a share of 12th place at Caldy Golf Club, Lancashire.
Joint leaders on two-under-par 71 are Ireland's Laura Webb (East Berkshire) and Minna Kaarnalahti (Finland), a shot ahead of past champion Ann Lewis (Royal St David's).
Wood bogeyed the second but birdies at the fourth and fifth got her out in one-under 35.
She was still one under par with five to play but then bogeyed the 14th, 16th, 17th and 18th for 41 home.
Royal Dornoch's Alison Bartlett had a similar sad story from the back nine. She was two under par for the first six holes but eight over the card for the last 12, finishing with a 79 (36-43) for a share of 34th place.
Fiona De Vries (St Rule) had an 80 to be joint 39th; Margaret Sievwright (Buckpool) an 82 for T52 position; Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) an 83 (T65) and Dawn Yog (North Berwick) an 87 for joint 85th place in a field of 94 players.
The tournament is over 54 holes.
