STIRLING STUDENTS RUNNERS-UP IN YALE INVITATIONAL

Stirling Univ team finish 2nd in McDonald Cup at Yale, Shepherd 5th, Maclean 6th

Stirling University men's team finished second in a field of 17 squads at the McDonald Cup two-day Yale Invitational collegiate tournament at The Course at Yale, New Haven, Connecticut at the weekend (October 1-2).

They were beaten only by two shots by winners Harvard (840) with Yale (847) third, five behind Stirling.

Three Stirling students finished in the top ten in the individual event won by Matt Naumec (Boston College) by three strokes with rounds of 64, 69 and 67 for 10-under-par 200.

Laird Shepherd (Stirling) finished fifth on 208 (71-67-70) and team-mates Chris Maclean (69-73-67 for 209) and Jordan Sundborg (73-66-74 for 213) came sixth and joint 10th in a field of 88.

Other scores and placings by Stirling students were a tied 16th finish by James Wilson with 69-73-72 for 214, and Andrew Davidson (tied 35th) with 76-70-73 for 218.

The Stirling University women's team is currently in USA preparing for the Yale Women's Intercollegiate this coming Friday - Sunday
