In an unexpected turn, Michigan is halfway to its first victory of 2016-17 ... and there are three British girls in the top 20 with one round to go of the Trinity Forest Invitational.
Rain wreaked havoc at Trinity Forest Country Club on Monday, causing a two-hour rain delay and shortening the 36-hole day to just 18. With 18 scheduled for Tuesday's final day, that means the tournament has been shortened from 54 to 36 holes.
The No. 53 ranked Michigan Wolverines have taken advantage. On a difficult day when only one player broke par, Emily White and Elodie Van Dievoet held steady, posting matching 3-over 75s to sit in a tie for sixth. With two others players in the top 20, Michigan posted a 16-over team score in Dallas – good enough for a one-shot lead over No. 28 Texas A and M.
Leading team totals: 304 Michigan, 305 Texas A and M; 306 Baylor and Ohio State; 307 Nevada-Las Vegas. Field of 14 teams.
The Aggies, Texas A and M, are in contention on the strength of individual leader Bianca Fabrizio, who made five birdies in a 1-under 71 for a two-shot cushion over SMU's Lindsey McCurdy.
Baylor, ranked 21st, and No. 22 Ohio State are tied for third at 18 over, while host SMU, ranked 36th, sits in sixth at 21 over.
Amee Ponte from Guernsey, a final-year student at Texas San-Antonio (UTSA), and Elizabeth Prior from Surrey, a second-year student at UNLV (Nevada-Las Vegas), are tied 13th on 76.
Chloe Weir from Belfast, a second-year student at Kansas State shot a 77 to be T20 in a field of 75 players.
Former Scottish U18 girls champion Fiona Liddell, a freshman at Baylor, and Becky McGeehan (UTSA) are tied 38th on the 80 mark.
Connie Jaffrey from Kilwinning, a second-year student at KansasState, is T46 on 81.
