TOP TEN FINISH BY SOPHIE MADDEN AT SOUTH CAROLINA
Sophie Madden (Nova Southeastern University), a second-year student from Essex finished joint eighth in a field of 65 players at the Newberry College Regional Preview tournament over 36 holes at The Members' Club @ Woodcreek, Elgin in South Carolina.
Sophie had rounds of 75 and 74 for 149 over a par-72 course of 5,893yd.
Lucy Eaton (Florida Tech), a sophOmore from Skipton, Yorkshire, finished T36 on 158 with rounds of 81 and 77.
There was a triple tie for first place on 143 between Brittany LaPadula (Florida Tech) 72-71, Paloma Vaccaro (West Florida) 69-74, and Guro Rambjoer (Florida Tech) 72-71.
LaPadula won the tie-breaker on the 18th hole with Rambjoer placed second. Spare a thought for Vaccaro. She was leading the field by two shots with one hole to play over the regulation two rounds but ran up a double bogey at the 18th - and then came third in the play-off.
Not surprisingly, Florida Tech (585) won the team title ahead of West Florida (594) with Rollins College (597) third and Nova Southeastern (599) fourth in a field of 12 teams.
