Duke University remain tied third after two rounds

PALOS VERDES, California – For the second straight day, the Duke University women's golf team carded a three-over-par 287 in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge and enters the final round in third place at the 6,017-yard, par 71 Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Florida turned in a 12-under-par 275 to claim the overall lead with a three-under-par 565. Southern California (567), Duke (574), Arizona State (575), UNLV (578), UCLA (579), Alabama (580), Northwestern (585), San Diego State (585), California (588) and Arizona (588) rounded out the top 11 teams.
At one point on the afternoon, the Blue Devils were only two shots behind Florida, but Duke dropped five shots over the final three holes as winds started picking up and temperatures fell. Duke made the turn at even par as Leona Maguire and Virginia Elena Carta held a two-under-par ledger each.
Maguire, who was tied for the individual lead after day one with a three-under-par ledger, went on to sign for an even-par 71, in the second round and is tied third with a three-under-par 139. A product of Cavan, Ireland, Maguire trails Kelly Grassel of Florida (137) and Robynn Ree of Southern California (138) with 18 holes remaining.
Looking for her first win of the 2016-17 campaign, Maguire opened with birdies on No. 5, No. 7 and No. 9 on her way to making the turn with a two-under-par, 33. After five straight pars to open the back nine, Maguire finished with bogeys on No. 15 and No. 17 along with pars to finish with a 71.
After shooting an 82 in round one, junior Lisa Maguire collected two birdies and had an 80 Monday. She is 86th overall with a 162.
