GEMMA DRYBURGH'S SECOND-ROUND NIGHTMARE IN CALIFORNIA
Aberdeen-born former Curtis Cup player Gemma Dryburgh had a nightmare second round of four-over-par 76 in the Symetra Tour's IOA Championship at Beaumont, California on Saturday.
She had dropped seven shots off the lead which is shared by three players on 137: Daniela Darquea (Ecuador), Briana Mao (USA) and Anne-Catherine Tanquay (Canada).
Gemma started her round well enough with a birdie at the second but it all went pear-shaped from the fifth to the 15th.
She bogeyed the fifth, ninth, 12th, 13th and 14th and, to cap her woes, ran up a double bogey 5 at the short 15th.
But give Dryburgh credit for not throwing in the towel. She salvaged a better score than looked on the cards by birdieing the 16th and 18th in halves of 37 and 39.
Another past GB and I international, Bronte Law from Cheshire, has moved up to share 10th place on 140 (69-71).
Compatriot Charlotte Thomas, also a GB and I international in days gone by, is T30 on 143 (73-70).
