Irish Girls' Open Stroke Play Championship at Roganstown Golf and Country Club

PRESS RELEASE

Irish Girls' Open Stroke Play Championship
Roganstown Golf & Country Club
7 - 9 April 2017

International field set for Roganstown

30 March 2017
The Irish Girls U18 Open Strokeplay Championship is taking place at Roganstown Golf and Country Club from 7 – 9 April 2017. The Championship will be played over 54 holes – 18 holes Friday and Saturday with the top 50 players plus ties progressing to the final 18 holes on Sunday.

An international field of 108 players representing 15 countries will compete for the Championship at Roganstown, where current world number 1 amateur Leona Maguire captured the inaugural title in 2012. Irish legendary golfer, the late Christy O'Connor Junior created and designed the golf course which is set amongst beautiful lakes and hills, presenting a challenge for every golfer that plays it.

Norwegian Celine Borge, who was victorious in 2016, will not be at Roganstown this year but Tina Mazarino, Emilie Øveras and Anna Cathrine Krekling will be vying to bring the trophy back to Norway again.

The Irish challenge has always been strong in this event with Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell) and Olivia Mehaffey (RCDL) claiming title from 2012 – 2015. 2016 World Amateur Team Championship bronze medallist Annabel Wilson (Lurgan) now surely has this event in her sights. Having captured the Irish Girls Close Championships in 2014 and 2015, an Open title would be another achievement to add to her CV.

Members of last year's victorious Irish Girls Home International Team Mairead Martin (Killarney), Valerie Clancy (Killarney), Rachel Thompson (Cork) and Lauren Walsh (Castlewarden) will also be ones to watch over the weekend.
