SCOTLAND WOMEN'S TEAM FOR SPAIN

SCOTTISH GOLF NEWS RELEASE

Newly-crowned African Amateur Stroke Play champion Liam Johnston is among the Scottish Golf players selected for the European Nations Cup in Spain later this month.

The Dumfries & County player achieved the biggest win of his career as he led a Scotland 1-2-3 at Leopard Creek last week, building on a top-five finish at the South African Stroke Play and his run to the Sanlam South African Amateur quarter-finals.

Johnston will now head for Sotogrande from 29 March to 1 April, where he will be joined in the Men’s team by Robert MacIntyre (Glencruitten), Connor Syme (Drumoig) and Craig Howie (Peebles).

The Scottish Golf women's side has also been selected for the event, with Hannah McCook (Grantown-on-Spey), Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) and Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) flying the flag.

The top-three ranked available players have been selected for the female event, including McCook and McWilliam, the Scottish Women's Order of Merit champions over the last two years.

National Coach Ian Rae said: "The European Nations Cup is a great event at Sotogrande and we look forward to competing at both men's and women's level.

"We are seeing improvements among our players at female level and the three players selected have the chance to impress and also gain valuable European experience, as it's the first time we have sent a female team for a number of years."

Players will compete for team honours and the individual prizes at Sotogrande, with Blairgowrie's Bradley Neil tied second individually three years ago.
