SCOTS TEENAGER KAREN WINS BIG AUSSIE TOURNAMENT
Karis Davison with the Riversdale Cup |
Karis Davidson, Scottish-born teenager who moved from Innerleithen to Queensland with her parents when she was seven or eight years old, has won the Riversdale Cup, one of the biggest women's open tournaments in Australia.
As the fourth highest GB and Ireland born player in the Women's World Amateur Rankings - No. 61 - after Leona Maguire, Olivia Mehaffey and Alice Hewson, Karis technically would have been an automatic selection through the rankings for GB and I in the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe in Italy in June, but news from Australia is that Davidson, 18, has been chosen to play for Australia in an international team tournament in China.
As a player cannot play for two different countries, the Australian move would rule Karis out of contention as a GB and team player.
Davidson's mother Faye tells Kirkwoodgolf that they are planning a trip to the UK in June for Karis to play in some tournaments, including the St Rule Trophy, which she played in three or four years ago.
