ALICE HEWSON FINISHES WITH A FLOURISH TO MAKE TOP TEN IN CLEMSON INVITATIONAL
Alice Hewson from Berkhamsted and a student at Clemson University, South Carolina, shot a classy final round of four-under-par 68 and a total of one-under 215 to finish T8 in a field of 94 players at the Clemson Invitational at Reserve at Lake Keowee, Sunset in South Carolina on Sunday.
Curtis Cup player, chasing a place in the GB and I team for the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent in Italy in June, birdied two early par-3s, the second and seventh, followed by birdies at the ninth, 13th and par-5 17th. Her only bogey in halves of 33-35 (one of the lowest rounds of the 54-hole tournament) came at the 10th.
Hewson finished eight strokes behind the winner by two, Matilda Castren (Florida State) with scores of 72, 65 and 70 for nine-under 207.
Alice's earlier rounds were 72 and 74.
Hosts Clemson (882) finished ninth of 17 with Florida State (854) winning the team title ahead of Furman (856) and Florida (857).
