Hannah McCook makes it two Scots in top 10

Aboyne teenager Shannon McWilliam finished second in the Helen Holm Scottish women's open amateur stroke play championship at Troon today.

She was five strokes behind the winner, Sweden's Linn Grant, 17 years old, a grand daughter of James Grant from Inverness who was a club pro in Sweden.

With the first two rounds at Troon Portland and the final 18 holes today over Royal Troon's Open championship links course, Grant shot rounds of 71, 66 and 72 for seven under par 209.

McWilliam, 17, who finished third in this tournament as a 15-year-old, had scores of 69, 70 and 75 for 214. The first two were the only players to finish the 54 holes under par.

Shannon had double bogey 6s at the seventh and 15th in her final-round halves of 38 and 37. She did birdie the fourth and 13th.

Grant's birdies at the second, fourth, sixth, 10th and 12th saw her forge clear of McWilliam who had started the final day two strokes behind her playing partner.

The Swede bogeyed the first and had double bogeys at the short eighth (the Postage Stamp) and the short 14th in halves of 36.

Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) made it two Scots in the top 10 by sharing ninth place on two-over 218 with rounds of 72, 71 and 75.

McCook birdied the fourth, 11th and 12th in halves of 38 and 37. She ran up a triple bogey 6 at the short 10th and also dropped shots at the second, sixth, seventh and 14th but, overall, it was Hannah's best performance for some time in a tournament of the calibre of the "Helen Holm."

Five players tied for third place on 216, two behind Shannon McWilliam. Third prize was decided on the final round over Royal Troon and went to Hollie Muse (West Lancashire) who had a 71.
