BRIGGS BEST SCOT IN IRELAND STROKE PLAY
Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) finished as the leading Scot, in 12th place behind winner Maria Dunne (Skerries), in the Irish women's open amateur stroke play golf championship at Co Louth Golf Club today.
Briggs had rounds of 75, 76 and 76 for a total of eight-over-par 219.
Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) also made the top 20 with scores of 76, 76 and 77 for 229 and joint 16th place.
Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) had the best Scottish final round, a two-over 75, for a final total of 232 and a share of 22nd place. Her earlier scores were 78 and 79.
Former Scottish women's amateur champion Gabrielle MacDonald (Craigielaw) scored 77, 78 and 81 for a total of 236 and 35th place.
Dunne must have clinched her place in the GB and I Vagliano Trophy team - to be announced this coming week - for next month's match against the Continent of Europe in Italy. She had rounds of 66, 76 and 74 for a three-under aggregate of 216.
The Irish player won by two shots from two English players, Sophie Lamb (Clitheroe) (71-76-71) and Gemma Clews (Delamere Forest) 67, 75 and 76, also for 218.
