GILLIAN PATON REGAINS ANGUS TITLE

Gillian Paton (Royal Montrose) regained the Angus women's county championship she lost to Jacqueline Cameron (Blairgowrie) 12 months ago by beating the same opponent 2 and 1 in a very good final at Monifieth Links today (Sunday).
Cameron, who lost the 2013 and 2015 finals as Jacqueline Sneddon, looked well on her way to repeating her 2016 success when she won the fourth, fifth and seventh to cancel out her opponent's one-hole lead with a birdie at the second.
But Paton started a winning fightback at the ninth to turn one down.
The Royal Montrose player squared the contest at the 11th and went one up at the 13th. After halves at the 14th, 15th and 16th, Paton won the 17th with a 4 for a 2 and 1 success.
Wendy Smith (Monifieth), who plays off 2, won the handicap championship final by 3 and 1 against Jodie Taylor (Downfield) (11).
