Eilidh Watson shines at the Highland Open
Eilidh Watson in impressive form as she defends Pitlochry Highland Ladies Open title
Defending champion Eilidh Watson (Muckhart) is in impressive form again in this year's Pitlochry Highland Ladies Open.
She was the leading qualifier for the scratch match-play stages by nine strokes from second seed Louise Fraser (Kingsknowe) with the third and fourth seeds some 12 and 16 shots off the pace.
And Eilidh started her match-play campaign with a resounding 9 and 8 victory over Brenda Clough (Blairgowrie), the last of the 16 qualifiers, following that up in the quarter-finals with a 2 and 1 win over Isla Moncrieff (Pitlochry).
The better-ball in the Watson-Moncrieff match was seven under par!
Pitlochry member Eve Muirhead, three times Highland Ladies Open champion and Olympic GB curling skip, called in past the clubhouse at lunch time to speak to some of the girls. That's Eve second from right in the picture at the top of this article. Top seed Eilidh Watson is behind her to the right.
Second seed Louise Fraser (Kingsknowe) stopped at an accident to give assistance on the slip road coming into Pitlochry this morning. A car had run off road but no one was seriously hurt. Play had to be delayed for 30min. Louise went on to win her first tie 6 and 5 and her quarter-final by the same margin over Kate Rorke (Kingsknowe).
