DORNOCH'S CARA BEATS FORMER STRATHTYRUM TOURNAMENT WINNER
Royal Dornoch's Cara Thompson beat Marilyn Henderson, three times winner of the tournament from 1996 to 2007, in the first round of match-play in the Strathtyrum Tournament at St Andrews today (Wed).
Cara (formerly Cara Gruber) is a former Northern Counties champion. She won by 2 and 1 against Henderson who was entered from Germany in her winning years but has a Northern Ireland connection.
Also through to the last 16 are Ann Ramsay (Kirriemuir) and Karen Marshall (Baberton.
Ramsay, winner of the title in 2014, beat Adrienne Bennett 2 and 1.
Marshall, winner of this tournament six times since 1997 - she completed a title hat-trick in 2010-2011-2012, beat Wad (CORRECT) Grayson by two holes.
Ireland's Ada O'Sullivan, former captain of the GB and I Curtis Cup team, lost by 3 and 1 to Barbara Jamieson.
