JENNIFER SAXTON WINS THE ST ANDREWS GIRLS' OPEN FINAL

Perth and Kinross women's county team player Jennifer Saxton won the Junior Ladies Open by beating Aboyne's Kimberley Beveridge 3 and 2 in the morning semi-finals and then scored a 2 and 1 win in the final against Eloise Healey (West Lancs).

The girls' handicap section was an all-England final in which Adel Watt (Leeds), playing off eight, beat Isla McDonald O'Brien (Lilleshall), who has a handicap of 12, by 4 and 3.

For the second year in a row, the St Andrews Boys' Open has been won by a player from Japan.

Taiga Sugihara followed in the footsteps of his 2016 winning compatriot by beating the top seed, Daniel Nicholls (Colchester) by 3 and 1 in the final over the Old Course today.

Sugihara was the underdog, having qualified for the match-play in 22nd place, but he found his game as the tournament progressed and peaked at the right time against Nicholls.

In the morning semi-finals Sugihara beat Matthew Jackman (St Andrews) by one hole.

The boys' handicap section title stayed in Scotland, thanks to Ben Carberry (Falkirk) who beat Demi Di Matteo (Burhill) by 3 and 2 in the final after KOing Calum G Daun (Inverness) by 3 and 2 in the morning semi-finals.
