CONNIE JAFFREY MATCHES CAREER-LOW 66 TO LEAD IN TEXAS
Connie Jaffrey, winner of the Scottish women's amateur golf championship at Royal Aberdeen GC earlier this year, matched her career-low score of six-under-par 66 to lead a field of 74 competitors by three strokes at the Mary Kauth Invitational women's college tournament at Briggs Ranch Golf Club, San Antonio, Texas.
The Kansas State University student had eight birdies in all and two bogeys over a par-72 course of 6,450yd.
Starting at the 1Oth, Connie, who comes from Kilwinning, Ayrshire, birdied the 11th, 17th and 18th to cover her first nine holes in three-under 33. She then birdied the first, bogeyed the second and fourth, before finishing strongly with birdies at the fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth for another half of 33.
Team-mate Niamh McSherry, a freshman from Northern Ireland, shot a five-over 77 for joint 46th place at the end of the first of three rounds.
