LAST HOLE DISASTER FOR CONNIE JAFFREY
Scottish women's amateur champion Connie Jaffrey, a student at Kansas State University, crashed a last-hole triple bogey 7 and a three-over-par second-round 75 for 147 and a joint 16th placing in a field of 63 players at the Magnolia Invitational women's college tournament at Old Waverly Golf Club, West Point, Mississippi on Monday.
Connie, from Kilwinning, had birdied the third and seventh but dropped shots at the second and 11 which meant a par at the 18th would have given her a par-matching 72 for the 6,320yd course. It was not to be!
The other two Kansas State Brits in the field had contrasting fortunes. Freshman Niamh McSherry from Northern Ireland had a 79 - seven more than on Sunday - and her 151 tally drops her to a T32 position.
Niamh had a double bogey 6 at the 13th and bogeys at the first, eighth, ninth, 12th, 16th and 17th in halves of 39-40. Her only birdie came at the 10th in halves of 39-40.
Chloe Weir from Belfast, on the other hand, improved from an opening 81 to a 74 for 155 and a T46 standing. She had double bogey 6s at the fifth and 16th mixed in with birdies at the first, third, sixth, ninth and 13th. She had only one birdie in her first round.
Kansas State (599) are in eighth position behind leaders Ole Miss (567) and Tennessee (579) in a field of 10 teams.
Julia Johnson (Ole Miss) is the individual leader by two strokes with scores of 68 and 69 for 137
