LEONA MAGUIRE SHARING NINTH PLACE AT ILLINOIS COLLEGE TOURNAMENT
HIGHLAND PARK, ILLINOIS. – The third-ranked Duke University women’s golf team opened play at the Windy City Collegiate Championship Monday with 36 holes of play at the 6,200-yard, par 71 Northmoor Country Club.
Duke freshman Jaravee Boonchant and senior Leona Maguire paced the Blue Devils on day one as they turned in an even-par, 142, and are tied ninth overall. Linnea Strom of Arizona State holds the individual lead with a six-under-par, 136, with back-to-back scores of 68.
Maguire, who hails from Cavan, Ireland, notched an even-par 71 in round one and then birdied her final two holes of the second round to finish with another score of 71. On the day, she birdied holes No. 15 and No. 18 in her first and second rounds. Maguire hit a team-best 15 greens in round one and rolled a team-low 27 putts in the afternoon.
