Round two suspended over night at Lacoste Ladies Open de France
Friday’s second round at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France was suspended until Saturday morning due to unplayable conditions at Golf de Chantaco in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
Play was suspended at 11:58CT and abandoned for the day at 14:30 to due to a waterlogged golf course.
“There was a large amount of rainfall in the area last week and over the weekend, which had already saturated the golf course,” said Davide Lantos, the tournament director and the Ladies European Tour’s Director of Sport. “Although the course was playable in the morning, the additional rain flooded several greens and fairways and the course became unplayable. We tried to re-start in the afternoon but after another shower, the course remained extremely wet.”
Second round play will resume at 08:45 on Saturday and the intention is to complete 72 holes (four rounds). The players who were on the golf course when play was suspended will return to the same positions to resume their second rounds at 8:45 on Saturday and the tee times will be adjusted for those whom had not yet teed off.
American Cristie Kerr, who shot an eight-under-par 62 to lead after Thursday’s first round, had not yet started her second round, but Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom was two under par after nine holes and only one stroke behind the leader. Another player taking advantage was Isabelle Boineau from France, who made three birdies at the first, second and sixth holes to hold a share of third place on five under par.
