LAURA JUST FAILS BUT VIKKI GAINS LET Q SCHOOL PASS MARKS
Laura Murray signed off with her third one-under-par 71 in the five rounds of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage at Marrakech, Morocco but the Aberdeen-born 29-year-old Kippie Lodge Sports Club player's aggregate of three-under 357 failed to give Laura the top 25 finish that would have earned her a regular place in the 2018 LET events.
Murray, who grew up at Alford, finished joint 30th, one stroke too many to be involved in a six-player play-off for the last two places among the 25.
Laura will be rueing her second-round 77 which gave her too much ground to make up.
Edinburgh's Vikki Laing, at 36 a pro for 14 years and the oldest competitor at the Tour School, earned a comeback to the LET circuit with a joint ninth place finish on 352, a closing 69 sealing her return.
Said Vikki, who played for GB&I in the 2002 Curtis Cup match:
"I'm happy with the week's performance. I was hoping to get into the top five to give myself better status but I know I’ll have some starts next year. I am just happy to have hit a bit of form - albeit a little late in the year but I’ll take those thoughts into next year and hopefully get off to a quick start in the events I can get into."
Casey Donaldson from Wisconsin and a gratudate of Stanford University, California where she credits coach Kathryn Imrie from Monifieth with giving her a swing that would stand up tournament pressure, won a play-off at the first hole against Carmen Alonso (Spain) and French amateur Manon Molle who also finished with 14-under-par totals.
Donaldson's play-off victory earned her No 1 status and guaranteed her as many LET outings as she wants next year.
