LET rookies at La Sella Golf Resort

The rookie class of 2018 is perfectly prepared to start the Ladies European Tour season after orientation week at the Hotel Dénia La Sella Golf Resort & Spa in Dénia, Alicante, Spain. 

Following on from classes in subjects ranging from social media to finance, the program concluded with a Pro-Am on Saturday, which was won by Norway’s 19-year-old rising star Celine Borge and her team of amateur golfers comprising Milan Dikken, Liam Glennie and Paul Glennie. 

Borge, one of three Norwegian Rookies on the LET in 2018, said: “It was a great experience and we received a lot of information on many different things.” 

Fellow Team Norway member Karoline Lund, 18, commented: “This has helped me to prepare for Tour life and has given me a lot of information that I can use. The social media part was interesting and the information that we were given was very clear. I’m really looking forward to the season now. I’ve worked really hard and I want to continue working hard so that I can compete with my idols and enjoy it.” 

Marita Engzelius, who has previously competed on the LPGA and Symetra Tour in the United States, was equally enthusiastic to get her season started. She said: “It’s not easy to know exactly how everything works on different tours so it was good to get a feel for what to expect and get an introduction.”

Belgian Fanny Cnops added: “I loved it. It was way better than I expected, because you think that you have played in so many tournaments that you know everything, but this opens your eyes to different areas such as finance and communication. I loved it and I would recommend it to everybody.”

Susana Ribeiro, from Portugal, said: “There was a lot of information but I think it’s going to be very useful and I loved everything. I think the media part and the finance… I will keep that planning document very close! I think it was important to learn about how to use our image properly.”

Natasha Fear, from La Sella Golf Resort, said: “I’m really excited to get started now. Being able to play on the LET is a huge thing for me and I can’t wait.”

Fellow Spanish player Gemma Fuster Anglada, from Barcelona, added: “I think these Rookie Orientation Days have been very useful and have enabled us to understand more about what the LET is and it will give us some useful tools for the upcoming season.”

Eun-Jung Ji, also known as ‘Jeny’, from Gran Canaria, said: “I absolutely enjoyed it. I loved meeting new people and not just the players, but also the people from the Ladies European Tour. It was a good idea to come here and to start out in the knowledge that you have friends on Tour.” 

The LET’s Development Director, Mike Round, commented: “Aside from all of the information and training that the rookies received, one of the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects was getting to know our new members and seeing them create new friendships. It’s those friendships that they forge here that will carry throughout their professional lives and beyond. We look forward to following their progress closely throughout the season, which tees off soon in Australia. Finally, we would like to thank the Hotel Dénia La Sella Golf Resort & Spa in Dénia, Alicante, Spain, for hosting us for the fourth consecutive year.”
