India Clyburn from Cleethorpes, a student at North Carolina State University, is in joint ninth position at the end of the first round of the 54-hole Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
She shot a two-over par 73 over the Ocean Course at Rio Mar Country Club, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, recovering well from a double bogey 6 at the second to cover her remaining holes in two under par, birdieing two par-5 holes, the third and ll.
Clyburn, younger sister of LET player Holly Clyburn, is five shots behind the leader by three, Maria Fassi (Arkansas) who birdied the second, third, fifth, seventh and 16th, offset by bogeys at the first and 17th, on her way to a three-under 68.
Arkansas University have three players in the leading eight after 18 holes and, not surprisingly, lead the team event by eight strokes from Kent State (292) with Iowa State (296) in third place.
